Hank Borgman and Company picked up more than 900 signatures in their petition drive to call a vote on a $3.3 million streetscape project, the Farmington Observer reported today. It will take the city clerk’s office a while to go through them to verify each signator is a registered Farmington voter, but with more than 200 to spare, it seems likely the Republican state rep primary won’t be the only big campaign going on between now and August 5.
Hank has chafed a little at a counter drive undertaken by Main Street and DDA volunteers, who stood with him outside the Post Office the past week to hand out informational flyers. Although one volunteer became overly zealous, everyone else remained respectful and simply offered people additional facts about the project. The whole idea is to make sure residents are well-informed, which is certainly a worthy endeavor. The DDA has approved another $20,000 to make sure everybody has the facts, so look for Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about the Streetscape Project, coming to a mailbox and television screen near you.
Election prediction: The project will squeak by. Unless Jim Mitchell heads up the “Vote No” campaign.

It’s too bad the Hank looks to have succeeded in costing the taxpayers yet more money, just to indulge a personal peeve. What was represented as service to the public is really more of his ax-grinding. I think I speak for many when I say I’m tired of it.
Jim Mitchell heading up the “vote no” campaign? I wouldn’t think that would much difference. Is there anyone left in Farmington that takes this guy seriously? All anyone has to do is remind the public of his years of ineptitude in public office…
